Hi Shin,

I live in San Francisco, but grew up around the great lakes. I've never tried to surf on Lake Michigan (but I hope to next time I'm home!)

So far I've found a few good resources that I'm hoping will come in handy:

Great Lakes Surfer
This is a nice surfing mag all about the great lakes.

Third Coast Surf Shop
In addition to lessons and gear sold in the midwest, these guys also have a forum for meeting up with other great lakes surfers.

Indy Goofy Foot Michigan Board shaper with some info.

I'd check to see if there are any surf clubs near you to join. Be sure to let me know how the waves are!

I'm hoping to find a used foam 9ft board for sale near where my parents live so I can teach my dad how to surf and catch a few small waves when I'm home in the spring. No ice surfing for me till I get a wetsuit thicker than 4.3!

Good luck!

Hi Tracey.
My name is Shin and lived in Northewestern suburb of Chicago. I originally came from Japan and had stayed in West-OZ for 6 years.
I never thought I could surf in Chicago so I was so suprised when I found this photo at your blog.
Please let me know more details about surf at Michigan lake and hope see you in beach soon !
